In the ever-evolving world of Web3 art, pixelated images of the meme icon "Pepe the Frog" piloting spaceships have emerged as the latest fascination for digital art connoisseurs. The Bitcoin-based "Space Pepes" collection stole the show in recent non-fungible token (NFT) trading, overshadowing even its Solana and Polygon-based counterparts.
According to Cryptoslam data, the Space Pepes NFT collection soared to the top as the most-traded non-fungible tokens over a seven-day span, registering a whopping $7.3 million worth of trading volume. Each Space Pepe NFT is priced just under $100, and most of the trading activity was recorded on May 19, although volumes have since experienced a gradual decline.
These weekly trading numbers surpassed those of the renowned Ethereum-based Bored Apes Yacht Club (BAYC) collection, underscoring a rising trend: Bitcoin-based artwork is gaining ground over collections hosted on other networks like Solana and Polygon, which previously enjoyed greater popularity among collectors.
Cumulatively, BAYC and its sibling collection, the Mutant Ape Yacht Club (MAYC), clocked a trading volume of $9 million. Other collections, including ImmutableX-based Gods Unchained and the much-debated Milady collection, recorded $4 million and $3 million trading volumes, respectively.
A glance at the past thirty days reveals that Bitcoin NFTs have amassed around $167 million in trading volumes. Although this figure falls short of Ethereum’s nearly $397 million, Bitcoin's NFT sales outstrip those on the Solana network by almost threefold, as per Cryptoslam, which reported Solana's trading volume at around $57 million. This signals a growing trend of Bitcoin's increasing dominance in the NFT marketplace.
